Brazil Women, on the other hand, have been in excellent form and remain one of the strongest teams in women’s football. The Selecao thrashed Russia by a 3-0 margin in their previous game and will be confident ahead of this match.

There would be nothing better than a win against Brazil to rid the Canada women’s national soccer team of the bad taste left by the scoreless draw against the Czech Republic on Friday.

Both matches will go down as friendlies played in Cartagena, Spain, but they carry the urgency of being Olympic tuneups with the final squad selection by manager Bev Priestman influenced by performances in the games. The final Olympic roster will be announced before a camp that will be organized at the end of June.

The games come fast and furious for Canada at the 2021 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, with four straight days of action for the reigning silver medallist.

After a pair of lopsided victories (over El Salvador and Colombia, respectively), the Brazilians have established their perch atop Group A. They’ll be eager to hold on to the top spot, but in the Canadians they’ll face a team that knows how to win in this competition.

For both sides, this game could very well be difference between first and second place at the end of the group stage.
